Gold Profit Calculator (XAU/USD)
Calculate gold profit or loss from entry and exit prices, lots and ounces per lot. Include additional costs and explicit USD, GBP or other account-currency conversion.
Calculate gold price exposure before adding costs.
For a linear USD-quoted gold contract, multiply the directional price move by lots and troy ounces per lot, convert into the account currency, then subtract additional cash costs. Contract sizes vary. This calculator uses prices, not a universal gold pip definition, and fetches no live quotes or account information.

Gold profit formula and worked examples
Long gross USD result = (exit − entry) × lots × ounces per lot. For a short, use entry − exit. Divide the USD result by USD per one account-currency unit, then subtract additional costs in that account currency.
These original examples all use entry USD 2,500/oz, exit USD 2,510/oz and 0.10 lot. Each has 3 units of its stated account currency in additional costs. The GBP example assumes 1 GBP = 1.25 USD. Prices and rates are hypothetical.
| Example | Exposure | Gross | Costs | Net |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Long, USD account, 100 oz/lot | 10 oz | 100.00 USD | 3.00 USD | 97.00 USD |
| Short, USD account, 100 oz/lot | 10 oz | -100.00 USD | 3.00 USD | -103.00 USD |
| Long, GBP account, 100 oz/lot | 10 oz | 80.00 GBP | 3.00 GBP | 77.00 GBP |
| Long, USD account, 10 oz/lot | 1 oz | 10.00 USD | 3.00 USD | 7.00 USD |
How much does a USD 1 gold move change the result?
At the hypothetical 100-ounce contract, 0.01 lot is one ounce: a USD 1/oz move changes gross profit or loss by USD 1. At 0.10 lot it changes it by USD 10. A favourable move adds this amount; an adverse move subtracts it. With 10 ounces per lot instead, both amounts are one tenth as large.
For a GBP account at 1 GBP = 1.25 USD, the one-ounce move is GBP 0.80 before costs. The result above shows this sensitivity using your entered quantity and conversion rate. It holds that rate fixed and does not include changing charges. Read the symbol contract-size explanation before copying a lot label from another product.
Check the contract and the execution convention
This is a linear lot-based model. It does not model futures tick specifications, options, physical ownership, margin, slippage beyond your entered fills, changing conversion rates or broker-specific rounding. A calculated result is not a promise of a fill or profitable trading.
